LAS VEGAS, NV (May 6, 2020) – Pivoting from an in-person awards ceremony and banquet in order to create a special, celebratory opportunity for these deserving students while preserving social distancing protocols, this year The Rogers Foundation presented more than $2 million in college scholarships to 25 high school seniors in Clark County via a Facebook Live Stream this evening. “While this pandemic has required all of us to make adjustments, we’re happy that we can join together, virtually, to provide the recognition these students deserve,” said Rory Reid, President of The Rogers Foundation. “Every year we meet a new batch of students and every year we are impressed with their dedication and inspired by their belief that the future will be our friend. These students are additional proof that Nevada’s greatest renewable resource is its young citizens.”

Over the past several months, hundreds of southern Nevada students applied for the scholarships. After reading through every application, The Rogers Foundation narrowed the pool down and conducted dozens of video interviews with the students to determine the top 25 impressive finalists. The Live Stream began with a video of previous celebrations and remarks by Reid who talked about Beverly Rogers and The Rogers Foundation, describing Beverly as the premier patron of arts and education in Nevada. Then, each finalist introduced themselves by video and identified their current high school and college plans before Michelle Sanders, Director of Finance and Administration for The Rogers Foundation, began announcing winners.

Sanders then went on to award the variety of Rogers Foundation Achievers Scholarships. Ranging from $20,000 to $100,000, the money is valid toward educational costs at any college or university in the United States. In a surprise move, this year The Rogers Foundation awarded not one but two of the top $100,000 scholarships.
