Float Through the Art Installations at the H Hotel Los Angeles

Curated by NINE dot ARTS, an international award-winning curatorial firm, the hotel's art collection invites guests to lose themselves in the idea of air travel and examine how it has impacted exploration, science, jobs, fashion and other aspects of modern society. Seven installations using different media from Los Angeles-based artists and others from across the country create an unmistakably authentic guest experience rooted in nostalgia — accented by found objects from the golden age of aviation.

Planes
Patti Ortiz | painted aluminum
San Antonio-based artist Patti Ortiz’s rose gold paper airplanes, Planes, gracefully lead visitors from the lobby toward the restaurant and bar, like a flock of birds. Commissioned after a piece at Denver International Airport, the painted aluminum piece is the only other planes-inspired work by Ortiz in the world.
Plane Windows
Jim Darling | oil paintings with layered wood panels
Los Angeles-based artist Jim Darling’s Plane Windows series features abstracted landscape scenes as viewed from windows of a plane. Spaced similarly to those on an actual jetliner, the series of oil paintings, made with layers of carved wood panels, transport the viewer from the hotel’s coffee bar to the view of an in-flight passenger.

Denver-based photographer Paul Brokering’s Facades of LA features photographs of iconic Los Angeles buildings including Fred Segal, La Brea Psychic, Century Plaza Towers and Valentino that line the seating area in the north lobby.
Artist Quote: "The architecture of LA is very rich and ranges from historical to modern to kitsch to anything goes,” said Brokering. “Where else do you find buildings where the facades appear to be nothing more than ivy with cutouts for the doors and windows? I love L.A.”

Featured in the lobby, Bill Brown’s Cloud Nine (28) installation mimics the feeling of whizzing through the atmosphere through an abstracted, encaustic cloud painting.
LAX 4
Jeffrey Milstein | photographic print on aluminum
Haunting and gorgeous, Millstein’s LAX 4, displayed in the hotel’s library, depicts a terminal at one of the nation’s largest airports. Known for his aerial photography, Los Angeles-based artist Jeffrey Millstein has documented a series of airports from coast to coast.

Also featured in the Waypoint Kitchen, Derek Keenan’s gilded Geometric Wall Sculptures reference mid-century modern geometry and bring a gilded, ornate aura to the dinner atmosphere.
