Rogers Art Loft In Las Vegas Pivots To Virtual Artist-In-Residency Program

ROGERS ART LOFT IN LAS VEGAS PIVOTS TO VIRTUAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Contemporary British Visual Artist Gemma Marmalade Kicks Off New Format June 1

LAS VEGAS (June 1, 2020) - The Rogers Art Loft at The Lucy, a multi-disciplinary artist-in-residency program dedicated to inclusivity, originality, and empowerment of artists, has temporarily adjusted to a virtual format as the world navigates the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. Beginning on June 1 with notable contemporary visual artist Gemma Marmalade from the UK, the program will continue to host artist talks, workshops for locals, studio visits, and culminating events, virtually.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of resident artists, staff, and community members while supporting artist’s work during this unparalleled time. We are thrilled that Gemma Marmalade is taking her creative journey with us in a digital direction,” said Residency Director Ryan Reid. “Her work, particularly as it examines the performing artists’ voice, translates quite readily from a creative standpoint to the virtual platform.”

Gemma Marmalade is a British artist and scholar currently undertaking doctoral research examining the performing artists’ voice as, potentially, a subversive agent. Her performance-based art works utilize the voice in a way that deliberately skews meaning and distorts the conventional delivery of contexts and information. Las Vegas and its community have cultural resonance with Marmalade’s interests and is a powerful source of inspiration for the development of future work.

The artist-in-residency program that Marmalade will pursue entitled Part One: VODA, will include an Artist in Conversation – Virtual Edition on Thursday, June 4, at 7:00 pm PT. During the Zoom webinar that will also be streamed live on the Rogers Art Loft Facebook page, Gemma Marmalade will be in conversation with local multi-disciplinary artist, Brent Holmes. Their conversation will dive into Gemma’s past works and her plans for her residency at Rogers Art Loft.

Her residency will culminate on Saturday, June 20 with a 12-hour virtual performance from noon to midnight. For more information or to RSVP to receive the Zoom link, please visit Rogers Art Loft website.

Upcoming 2020 Rogers Art Loft Artists-In-Residency Include Kevin Goodrich from Washington in July and Daniel Melo from California in September.

The brainchild of local philanthropist and patron of the arts Beverly Rogers, the Rogers Art Loft is made possible by The Rogers Foundation, dedicated to transforming lives through arts and education in Southern Nevada.

Applications for the 2021 Rogers Art Loft Artists-In-Residency program are now open. To apply, please visit www.rogersartloft.com before the June 15 deadline.

Since launching with its inaugural roster of artists in June 2019, The Rogers Art Loft at The Lucy, has successfully welcomed a number of artists from a variety of disciplines including printmaking, sculpture, video art, fiber arts, and collage, to share their creative insight and practice with the Las Vegas community.
